It looks like the fall fishing bite may have started. Redfish have been gathering in decent sized schools over the past week. Some schools are holding 50 fish, others close to 100. Coming into October, it’s possible to find schools of 200 – 400 fish. These days can be epic and the bite can last as long as the weather holds and fish stay around the same location.
As much as I prefer to use artificial baits, lazy hot water redfish respond very well to cut bait fished on jig heads. Pinfish, blue crabs and ladyfish have all worked well. As the sun gets low in the evening, soft plastics like Hogy Swim Baits and Zara Spook Jr. have worked very well.
