Summer tarpon fishing is just heating up. The night bite continues to improve every week. It appears a huge push of residential river tarpon have made a push towards the coastline and piled up along Gulf Beaches. The average fish size has decreased a little, with most hovering around 80lbs and a few each night up to 130lb. Lately, the fish have been bright golden/green, to me, an indication that these are fish coming out of their river wintering spots.
The techniques have remained the same, large jigging soft baits worked along the water column depending on the fishes behavior and tidal phase. I put together this short video going in depth about the lures and jig heads we like to use for night tarpon.
