Gear Review: RCI Optic’s Monster Hole Sunglasses

The life long search for the perfect pair of sunglasses. It’s an expensive and often frustrating journey through broken frames, cracked lenses and unintentional gifts to Neptune on the sea floor. No one likes forking out $250+ for a pair of quality polarized shades more than we need too.

I have had been a long time user of a popular sunglass company. Over 5 years, close to 9 replacement pairs and a small fortune of repair fees, I finally needed a divorce from a drowning eye ware relationship.

Enter: The Monster Holes!

There is a new name in Polarized Sunglasses: RCI Optics. Backed by over 2 decades of experience in the Florida sun glass market. These guys got it right!

Hands down, the best polarized lenses I’ve ever worn on the water. Pair that with a stylish, comfortable frame and we’ve got a winner.

I’ve now had these frames for close to a month and been able to put them to the test in the field.

Inshore Florida Sight Fishing: I honestly felt the clarity of sight with these lenses should be the way I see on the water all the time. I could not discern any blur, fuzz, haze or distracting light aberrations while having them on. In one word, perfect.

I spent several trips sight casting to a number of redfish and snook in slightly brackish water. The copper color lens removed a majority of the surface glare and increased to overall distance I could see underwater. If I had to put a number on it, I would say 30% better visibility through the water than my former brand and that’s compared to their top end glass lens.

Rocky Mountain’s Ice Fishing: I was  able to make it out to Colorado for a video shoot this February. We lucked out on weather and had 3 days of clear skies and bright sunshine. Fortunately, for my eyes, these performed just a well in the blinding white glow of the Rockies. We fished for three days on the ice in temps to -11 degrees and to my amazement, my Florida sunglasses didn’t make a squeak in such a polar climate.

Overall RCI Optics Monster Hole’s are an A++

  • I must agree i bought the mosquito lagoon frames with blue mirror lense and they are as clear as my maui Jim’s I first ordered the monster holes and they were far to large for my head which is average at best I found the styling of the lagoons to be exactly what I was looking for they are now my go to glasses
